After the Fund: An update from Zaniya

I used my grant to attend the Young Women Run Conference. Over 100 young women from across the country gathered in the nations capitol to train to run for office not in four years, but right now. I had the opportunity to participate in workshops that would help me as I prepare for a career in politics.

My favorite workshop was the media training. I learned how to have confidence in myself and speak up about issues that are important to me. I was honored to meet other young politically ambitious women who are fired up and ready to jump start their political careers. I also had the chance to listen to elected officials and they taught me not to wait for someone to tell you to run for office. After this past election everyone talked about wanting to have a seat at the table. As Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm said, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” I will be bringing my folding chair and starting my campaign to run for my school board next year. Thank you to the 1,000 Dreams Fund for supporting my dreams!
