Trinity W., 21 – FUNDED

Trinity W. is currently an undergraduate student at the University of Miami, majoring in public relations. “I knew that I wanted to utilize my love of writing and connecting with others to help brands and organizations tell their story authentically and communicate to their audience effectively,” says this Paliwal Club of 100 STEAM Scholar. “I cannot wait to apply my acquired knowledge to my career in the field of communications!”

What is your professional dream?

My professional dream is to generate wealth and learn how to use that money to invest in improving not just my life, but the lives of others. I intend to give back to those who have similar backgrounds as mine through philanthropic work and advocacy because my goal is to help as many people as I possibly can. I want to create positive impact on the world and help other women achieve their dreams. I plan to do so through providing young women with scholarships and other grant opportunities.

What does being in the Paliwal Club of 100 mean to you?

It means the world to me to be a part of the Paliwal Club of 100! I feel inspired to continue the work that I am doing and to keep fighting for the future that I believe all women deserve and can achieve. I am truly honored to have been selected to represent the Paliwal Club of 100 and cannot wait to continue embodying the values of this initiative.

Women are underrepresented in the S.T.E.A.M. (science, tech, arts or math) fields and music industry. How can we change this?

I believe that representation matters. Seeing a woman direct a major blockbuster film, like Barbie, or occupying a leadership position at any high level as a young girl, boosts your confidence in your ability to do the same. This is why we have to show up and show how excellent women are in all fields. We are so powerful and strong, so we have to do our best to show young women everywhere that they are capable and worthy of being seen and respected — even in a patriarchal society that sometimes undervalues women.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

The adversity that I’ve faced in my life has shaped the person I am today. I’ve experienced housing insecurity, living in a single parent household with limited financial resources, having a chronically ill mother, witnessing my father struggle with addiction, and many other adverse situations that could have deterred me from ever getting back up again and prevailing.

I’ve learned that you can’t let the predicament that you’re in prevent you from succeeding in life. You have to use what you learned from it to light a fire in you to keep going and beat the odds that are stacked against you.

How will this grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

Being able to afford the school of my dreams has been a struggle for my family, so being one of the recipients of this award is truly an honor. This scholarship fund will help reduce the cost of my education and I am truly grateful to have been selected. My main goal is to graduate from UM student-debt-free — and this scholarship has brought me one step closer to achieving this goal, so I am beyond thankful!
