@TopazTvee, 27 – FUNDED

Her name is @TopazTvee — just like the Topaz birthstone! — but most of her friends just call her Topes (rhymes with hopes), and she says she enjoys “bustin’ a tune or two among many other things,” As a variety streamer, the BroadcastHER Academy winner mainly plays on PlayStation, and every so often, on PC. She has an affinity for Apex and sports games such as NBA 2K and other squad games.

What is your dream in esports and gaming?

I would love to compete in Apex and broadcast Apex and NBA 2K games.

What does being the BroadcastHER Academy winner, which includes a $1,000 grant and all-expense-paid visit to the HyperX Esports Arena to shadow, mean to you and how will it help you reach your goals?

This opportunity means so much to me! It gives me a chance to get out and really see what it’s like behind the scenes in esports. It will also equip me with more tools in order to make my dreams and goals come true.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and esports. What can we do to change this?

Esports orgs definitely need to provide more opportunities for women to safely participate. I want to be an example to other women that they can do this, too, while also helping those who are interested in esports know that they belong!

What are you most inspired by when it comes to creating encouraging content for young women in gaming, broadcasting, and esports?

I am truly inspired by the tireless work that so many female content creators have put in to allow me to be here. There have been so many women before me who have broken the glass ceiling for us to be able to continue to move forward in this industry.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

So far, I think the challenge I’ve faced most is accessibility. It’s hard to find the right people to talk to when you are trying to network and connect — especially if you are a woman.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Do it! You belong here! Anyone can do it! Be yourself, do what you love, and follow your heart.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I stay motivated by knowing that I represent other women who also want to see themselves in this field. Representation and seeing yourself is so important.
