As her Twitch handle might suggest, @TheodoraStyles is passionate about styling — but, in her lexicon, that means makeup and body painting! This BroadcastHER Grant recipient is a seasoned makeup artist and body painter and she loves sharing her process in her stream. But, you’ll likely see her drawing and coloring skills, too, and probably some gaming thrown in the mix, as well.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

I want to build a safe and inclusive community where I can share my passion for makeup and art. I always loved the quote “aspire to inspire,” so that is my biggest goal as a content creator.

How will your award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

It will help me build a PC for streaming since the laptop I’m using is dying of old age. It will make a variety of new content possible. So, besides my usual body-paint streams, there will be digital art, gaming with the community, and more!

What does being a recipient mean to you?

I’m insanely grateful! It feels like the hard work has paid off and people recognize the future potential and how much I truly love creating content and the community that comes with it.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

One of the most important things is visibility on social media — sharing women and their goals in gaming/broadcasting to a bigger audience and giving them a platform to inspire others!

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

It’s a challenge finding that sweet spot of being present on social media and having a stream schedule, but not exhausting myself in the process! There have been many times when I questioned my skills as an artist or streamer — or was too focused on numbers. But, at the end of the day, if you do what you love you’ll always have that fiery passion pushing you to work toward your goals.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Just do it! I always answer the question “is there anything you regret about streaming?” the same way: “Yes, the fact I didn’t start sooner!” You don’t need fancy equipment when you are starting out; in fact, I know many people who streamed from their phone for weeks until they upgraded. Create content YOU are passionate about, and the right people will follow to see more of it.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I will admit that I’m just like everyone else because I have phases where it’s hard to get motivated. But the fact that I choose to share my passion — something I absolutely adore — makes it easier. Oh… and I make a lot of to-do lists! Make sure to write down your dream goals and try working towards them a little bit at a time. Don’t forget to look back sometimes and see how much you have already achieved for that extra boost of motivation!
