@ThatSoAlyKat, 31 – FUNDED
Content creator @ThatSoAlyKat started streaming on Twitch on March 1, 2015 — and never looked back! The BroadcastHER Grant winner’s community space is fun-filled and respectful and she is now a member of the Blackgirlgamers stream team and a host every Friday on EsportsCCP Hive Weekly. The Hive weekly show is dedicated to showcasing women in the esports environment for college and high school. Celebrating diversity and inclusion in gaming has always been important to her — as is helping emerging streamers and promoting a healthy environment for the gaming industry.
What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?
I want to inspire and also help other Black women navigate the gaming industry.
How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
I was financially unable to get much-needed upgrades to my content quality and now I can do it.
What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?
It means a lot and I’m so grateful because I am usually doubtful. I took a chance asking for some help and I got it.
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?
We need to support and encourage each other to go for it all!
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
I don’t have the standard job and streaming has helped tremendously — not just financially, but with my confidence and goals.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
Start as soon as you can to see if you like it.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
I reevaluate and try different things. Having a great community and friends cheering you on helps a lot, too.
