Meet Susie S. (she/her), a New Face of Tech winner who is studying computer science and communications at the University of North Dakota.

What is your dream?

My dream is to make robotics and technology accessible to everyone, especially students in communities like the one I grew up in. Growing up in a rural area with few STEM opportunities, I had to teach myself robotics, coding, and even what careers existed in technology. Curiosity was my guide… it pushed me to explore, experiment, and never be afraid to ask questions. Without that curiosity, I wouldn’t be pursuing a career where I can combine my love of technology with my passion for inspiring others.

I want to be a role model for young girls, showing them that they belong in robotics and tech and that these fields are exciting, empowering, and full of possibilities. My goal is to create programs, resources, and outreach that help students see themselves in technology and give them the confidence to pursue it. I hope to spark curiosity, creativity, and ambition, so that more girls feel encouraged to explore STEM and build careers they love.

Curiosity is what brought me here. Asking questions, exploring beyond what I was taught, and never being afraid to wonder why or what if shaped my path into tech. This scholarship affirms that curiosity in technology and that it can bring impact and become a career.

What advice do you have for other women reaching for their dreams?

My advice is to stay curious, take risks, and trust yourself, even when the path isn’t clear. Surround yourself with people who encourage you, seek out mentors, and don’t be afraid to ask questions or try things you’ve never done before. Remember that obstacles aren’t roadblocks; they’re opportunities to learn, grow, and show yourself what you’re capable of. Most importantly, believe that your ideas, your voice, and your presence in any field matter, because they truly do.
