@SirKatelyn, 29 – FUNDED

“Wholesomely unwholesome.” That’s how @SirKatelyn, a BroadcastHER Grant recipient, describes herself. This body positive content creator’s focus is to remind everyone that it’s OKAY to be exactly who you are and to “Live Your Own Weird.”

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

I want to continue to create a safe and entertaining space for folks to hang out in, where we talk about real stuff and just have a fantastic time.

How will your award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

I’ve been on an extremely tight budget and these funds are going to allow me to make some upgrades to my stream without having to bug my community for donations.

What does being a recipient mean to you?

It means someone believes in what I do, and it means women are being supported and women deserve to be here.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

This. You all do a phenomenal job of shining a light on broadcasters who are severely underrepresented and, more importantly, you all partner with companies who exemplify the same values you do. I’m proud to be a part of this — both as a fundraiser and as a recipient.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

Harassment… endless harassment. I’m either too fat, too firm, too loud, too strong, too confident… for everyone, including other women. I’ve faced two Twitch teams run by people who tried to push me down to boost themselves up. People do not like when women are loud about basic respect. We will not be quiet.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

The good will outweigh the bad at least nine out of 10 times. Be yourself and enjoy the ride. Someone’s going to have a problem with something you do — no matter what that is. So do what you want. Identify and uphold your boundaries early and often. You are never wrong for placing a boundary on someone else.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

Consistency! I have a schedule that works for me. I tweet and talk in my discord and I try and forge authentic connections with other people.
