Shifra, 18 – FUNDED

Although 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship recipient Shifra Weingarten has taken some time away from school due to illness, she is still passionate about the pursuit of her goal to be a nurse at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
What is your professional dream?
I would love to take my nursing training to underserved countries.
How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship?
I will use my scholarship to decrease the financial burden of schooling that’s required for me to receive the necessary training to achieve my career goals.
How is this scholarship helping you get closer to your dream?
Helping me with training!
What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?
Apply everywhere. If you don’t apply, you have no options.
Have you had any setbacks? How did you move past them?
I struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which sometimes makes me not want to make any moves toward a productive future. I try to get past the destructive thoughts by formulating a plan when feeling better and following it mindlessly when not feeling too productive.
What’s next for you? What is your next goal?
My next goal is to return to school after taking medical leave due to illness. After being gone for so long, it’ll be tough to return.
