Sara, 16 – Funded

Location: Miami, Florida

Just call her Agent Sara Padilla-Petit. This Booker T. Washington High School junior wants to be an FBI agent and study criminology at Florida State University. But, she also has her eye on New York University and Texas State University because they are such different environments from her Miami home base. Regardless, it’s an adventure that she’s excited to take on when she graduates in a couple of years.

What is something you are most proud of?

I’m most proud of my determination and the way I fight for what I want.

Have you gone through any tough or challenging times? If yes, how did you deal with those challenges?

This past year, I have faced a lot of challenges financially and emotionally. But, I’ve tried not not let either affect my school work. I always try my best to keep a positive attitude.

What does it mean to you to be selected as a Girl on the Rise?

To be selected as a Girl on the Rise means the world to me because it includes a trip to the university of my dreams, which is Florida State University.

What inspired you to want to be involved with Girls on the Rise?

I was inspired because it helps girls who are trying to better themselves and push towards more opportunities in life.

How will funding from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals? In other words: Why is the opportunity to visit your prospective colleges important to your journey?

Visiting my dream college means a lot; it’s that extra push and would give me the energy that sometimes is hard to find when you’re drowning in homework. It would make me dream bigger!
