Sandy L., 17 – Funded

Sandy L. wants to be a nurse to help people, yet she also finds business interesting. So, this Guadalupe Center High School junior and Girl on the Rise is considering dual tracks at her dream school, University of Kansas.

What is something you are most proud of?

I am proud of getting third in a cross-country meet.

Have you gone through any tough or challenging times? If yes, how did you deal with those challenges?

I found English and Language Arts challenging, but I talked to my teacher more and asked more questions.

What does it mean to you to be selected as a Girl on the Rise?

I feel honored to be selected.

What inspired you to want to be involved with Girls on the Rise?

I was inspired by the prospect of receiving a scholarship that could help with many things, including ACT classes.

How will funding from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals? In other words: Why is the opportunity to visit your prospective colleges important to your journey?

The scholarship would help me and my parents financially. And, taking ACT classes will help me get a good score and have a chance of getting in the college I want to attend.
