@Patcisely, 26 – FUNDED

Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, @Patcisely is a variety streamer, but you can often find this BroadcastHER Grant winner playing Overwatch, Apex Legends, and indie games.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

I want to highlight and represent the Caribbean in the gaming/broadcasting industry.

How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

I don’t stream or put out as much content as I would like to because my current laptop has many issues. Getting a new system will allow me to stream and create more content.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?

It just might change my life. I had to put myself through university, and even though I had a job, I still couldn’t afford to build a desktop with all of my bills and student loans. This will finally allow me to get a new system like I’ve always wanted, so I can dive even deeper into gaming/broadcasting.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

Well this grant is definitely one way, because funding is often a major issue for minority groups. We also have to educate the masses and show them that women belong in this industry. We need more opportunities to be in the limelight and show that we belong just as much as men do!

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

Well I always seem to run into technical difficulties because of how old my laptop is. I call myself a “struggle streamer” because of it. Sometimes people don’t understand me or even bully me because of my accent. And they always think I’m from Jamaica! Everyone in the Caribbean doesn’t sound Jamaican!

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

It is intimidating, and men will try to backseat game you and question you, but that really has nothing to do with you. Just be yourself and go for it; there’s nothing to lose and everything to gain.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

Friends definitely help — and receiving an opportunity like this helps a lot, too. Then I always remind myself that, at the end of the day, I’m doing this because I want to and because I enjoy it.
