Parenda Foroghi, 35 – FUNDED

Lights, camera, action! Parenda Foroghi is transferring to UC Berkeley, beginning with the Fall 2021 semester, to pursue a film studies major. Here’s what else this 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship recipient had to say.

What is your professional dream?

I want to become a film editor.

How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship?

It will pay for educational expenses like books and a laptop.

How is this scholarship helping you get closer to your dream?

It helps a lot because my major requires equipment and gear — like a camera and even editing programs, which are expensive. The scholarship will definitely help me cover some of these expenses and facilitate my educational and career goals.

What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?

Never give up and use any opportunity — even if, at first, it looks unachievable.

Have you had any setbacks? How did you move past them?

I’ve had some language and cultural barriers because I moved to the U.S. five years ago. I have tried to improve my skills and overcome these barriers through hard work.

What’s next for you? What is your next goal?

Getting my master’s degree and finding a good career!
