Nhi Tran, 21 – FUNDED

“I am truly appreciative for the grant to be able to invest in my future,” says New Face of Tech winner Nhi Tran. “I cannot wait to devote more time to learning and growing in my field.” Her dream is to develop new technology within the healthcare field that will allow for better patient care. She’s currently studying sociology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
What does being the New Face of Tech mean to you?
It means that I am seen in the tech field — that I am on the right track and my hard work is recognized. I am truly appreciative of this opportunity.
Women are underrepresented in STEAM. How can we change this?
We definitely need more opportunities for women and a shift in mindset that recognizes women can be leaders in STEAM and tech. It’s important to have women mentors who have succeeded in STEAM first — to show that it is possible. Thank you for helping us in this way!
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
It has been hard to go to school full-time as well as go to work full-time. It has led to burnout at times and I’ve put my passions on hold. Having this opportunity allows me to focus on what I want and to worry less about money. I no longer have to choose and can prioritize school and passions.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
I make sure to surround myself with people who are also aiming for the same thing. Having people support you is amazing especially when you are feeling down. Having a support system is necessary in order to keep myself accountable and motivated.
How will funding from the 1,000 Dreams Fund and HARMAN help you reach your goals?
There are not enough words to say how thankful I am for the grant. The grant will allow me to be mentored by the people in the field who can guide me on what I can be doing to also become a force within the tech field. The funding will also let me focus on my passions and will further my experience. Less time working means more time I can work on my passions and networking. THANK YOU!
