@Nessacerily, 25 – FUNDED

Not only is @Nessacerily pursuing a gaming and animation degree, she’s also dedicated to her online community. The BroadcastHER Grant winner wants women to feel like they have a space that’s loving, supporting, and welcoming — a space that will help them realize how much potential they have. She also has a healthy love of sarcasm and Italian food!

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

Besides making partner, my dream as a digital broadcaster is to continue to advocate for female unity and empowerment. I would love to create a team where we could all help each other with goals. I want to show that you don’t have to act or look a certain way to achieve your dreams. If I can be just a small part in nurturing someone’s confidence or passion, then I feel like I’ve done my part.

How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

This grant will go towards buying my very first PC, which will be used for content creation and for assisting me with schoolwork. It has been my dream to have a setup where I can use my PC for gaming and creating content because there have been so many missed opportunities for me to test new games — due to not having the right equipment. Now, I can finally achieve that!

It will also help my goal of achieving a degree in gaming and animation because I will be able to easily access all the programs needed like Photoshop, Maya, and Unity. It gives me peace of mind and confidence.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?

It means the world to me! It means that I have an amazing support system who believes in me, sees my potential, and wants me to flourish. I cannot thank 1,000 Dreams Fund enough for not only allowing me to achieve my goals, but for connecting me with so many other amazing women.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

We need to all help each other out and uplift other women instead of only focusing on our own success. Organizations like 1,000 Dreams Fund are giving women a platform to further their goals and careers by giving them access to information and companies that they might not have had before. They are giving more representation than ever and we need to keep this going.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

Some of the challenges I’ve faced were not having funds for my goals and programs. Also, as a woman, I’ve not been taken seriously and not received the same amount of respect as men in this industry.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Have fun with whatever you play! Don’t let others dictate what you should be playing — because if you’re not happy, then your audience will know right away. Also, keep yourself protected with whatever information you give out and have moderation settings in line for those not-so-nice people. There are going to be negative energies who want to tear you down, but just know that you have the power and confidence to overcome that. Always believe in yourself and your worth!

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I break them down into smaller pieces so I don’t get overwhelmed; it creates a steady pace for me. I also like to visualize the results and take in how it makes me feel, which ignites my determination. Lastly, I surround myself with positive energy to maintain a better mindset because I definitely take on others’ emotions and I don’t need negativity in my life.
