@Nerd_Ducky, 30 – FUNDED

Her name is Kendra, but all her friends and family call her Duck — and her Twitch followers know her as Nerd_Ducky. A self-described “big kid at heart,” the BroadcastHER Grant recipient is a gamer, photographer, LEGO lover, and Tim Burton and Batman enthusiast. However, don’t let that playfulness fool you. She’s also serious about helping others overcome daily struggles and motivating them to push towards the things they want in life. She wants everyone to remember that, no matter their background, anything is possible.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream as a digital broadcaster is to help people overcome daily struggles in their lives, and to help make them realize there is something bigger and better out there than just the limitations they put on themselves.

How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

It will help me create new and exciting content for my community through equipment upgrades.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?

It helped me realize that dreams do come true, whether small or big.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

I think all women need to keep their heads high and keep doing what we’re doing to help overcome the small hurdles in front of us. The more we keep pushing forward, the more chance we have of our voices being heard.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

I see a lot of people who don’t think I can be a streamer or gamer because I am a woman. On days like these, I look at the amazing community I have built by just being me and it makes me feel a thousand times better.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Just do it. There are always going to be haters out there that don’t want to see you succeed but, in the end, the outcome is always worth it — and some of the happiest times of your life.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

My community helps keep me motivated and focused with their continuous support and drive to see me happy and to do better.
