@MollyBerry, 40 – Funded
Meet MollyBerry (she/her).
What is your dream in gaming, esports, and/or content creation?
My dream is to have a full-time and viable career in gaming content creation, featuring indie games and in-depth gameplay, while creating authentic content and community, centering folks who don’t benefit from misogyny, and the LGBTQIA2S+ community. I hope to cultivate, model, and normalize kindness, fun, and empathy in gaming and creator spaces. I do this by having honest conversations about relevant topics that come up, creating a relaxing and mega-chill stream, and having a space you can truly kick your shoes off and relax in, knowing boundaries are in place to prevent casual misogyny and transphobia.
Please share how winning support from 1,000 Dreams Fund is important to your dream and what impact it will have on your career?
This grant has enabled me to travel to TwitchCon NA 2024, where I will be able to host a panel with other members of the Twitch Women’s Guild, and participate in Unity Guild events and meetups! I’ll be able to create new and solidify existing relationships, with brands and sponsors, creators and friends, learn and grow, meet up with Twitch staff and leaders, and generally better express myself and my brand on the Twitch platform for my career.
I am beyond thankful and stunned to be receiving this! Thank you to the Twitch Women’s Guild and all the fundraisers for your hard work raising funds for this grant — and to 1DF for choosing me as a grant recipient!
What advice do you have for women & femmes who want to work in gaming, esports, and/or content creation?
Create content you believe in, connect meaningfully with other creators, and actively seek and reciprocate feedback. The sisterhood is EPIC and truly a great insight and support for new and seasoned creators alike.
For broadcast, work on audio quality above all else and don’t fret about issues — EVERYONE has audio issues.
For live-streaming, I believe boundaries for yourself and your community are the most important aspect for online safety. People will do whatever you let them do to you and in/around your community, so try early on to set and keep boundaries, find moderators to back you up.
Take mistakes in stride, don’t obsess about everyone else’s success. Instead, focus on your own career and journey without constantly comparing yourself to where you think you deserve to be, etc. Try to watch your own livestream vods and ask yourself if you enjoy your own stream/would you watch it for any length of time/what is the value for your audience and community. It’s OK to change your content and try new things!
Take. Days. Off. It will feel like you are losing ground, but if you don’t take time off then you will burn out, period. Take up piano, fencing, read a book, study a language, train for a marathon or 5k, adopt a puppy, literally anything other than playing games/designing games/creating content.
