@MokaTheVampyre, 29 – FUNDED

@MokaTheVampyre (pronounced Mo-Ka) is a transgender streamer with a focus on variety. The BroadcastHER Grant recipient started streaming seriously in February 2019 and has been consistently playing anything from the casual to the hardcore since then; it’s all on the table!

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream is to be someone who can inspire others to improve their own wellbeing.

How will your award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

I will be using the grant to fund my new PC, as my current one cannot keep up with my streaming setup. I have so many ideas and I want to keep adding to them — and the 1,000 Dreams Fund is going to help me achieve my goals.

What does being a recipient mean to you?

It is a huge honor for me as a transgender woman. This is legitimately the proudest moment for me, and I am so happy to have been chosen as a winner.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

I feel like one of the things we can do is to create our own space and build an amazing community of people who are supportive of women in all forms of gaming. With that, we can inspire many others. Once we’ve made such a big impact, I am sure that we will be represented and respected more.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

Throughout my streaming career, I’ve had so many trolls who are transphobic and misogynistic and everything else under the sun. But I’ve never let any of it get me down. I have learned from these experiences how to better handle these people and I have become a stronger person because of it.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

The biggest thing I recommend is to do your research before you begin, so you can start strong and know what to expect. There is so much that is not explained with streaming that it will take some time getting used to it all.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

My motivation is me — and my community — pushing me forward. There are times when I might go off track, but everyone is there for me, and I couldn’t ask for more. Thank you so much to everyone who believes in me.
