@Minntycream, 25 – FUNDED
Cat lover, creative, geek… that’s how @Minntycream describes herself! The bisexual BroadcastHER Grant recipient lives in Spain and is studying marketing and advertising.
What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?
I want to be a Twitch Partner and Twitch Ambassador to inspire other minorities while offering a safe space.
How will your award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
It will help me draw better and achieve more financial independence. With that comes the ability to invest in my dreams.
What does being a recipient mean to you?
It means I can be an example to other women and non-men; it means that I have something to offer and that I’m valuable to others. I can take another step into being a better streamer!
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?
Representation. Everywhere. We need more women’s voices and more femme, non-binary voices in the industry. We need to offer safe spaces for them, too, with protection against hate and abuse along with resources to combat it. We also need the help of men’s voices to stand with us and to fight for equality in the gaming industry.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
Misogyny is always there; it is like a normal thing to encounter. When I hit that “live” button, the first thing that comes to my mind is “oh god, please, don’t bring any misogynist troll.” I can’t stand the trolls. It is a challenge when you are scared of having fun playing video games.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
You are never alone; you always will have a group of women and non-binary folks to cover you! If you are scared of hate or anything else, we will all be here for you.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
I always have my friends by my side who help me feel better along the way. Also, it helps to have other creators as an inspiration.
