Michelle a.k.a @michxu on Twitch, is originally from Mexico, but now lives in the U.S. The BroadcastHER Student Scholarship winner has been playing video games since she was quite young, thanks to her brother, and now she gravitates toward FPS games. In addition to streaming, she loves to paint and draw!

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream is to continue to grow my amazing community, create quality content, and inspire others to achieve their goals.

How will the BroadcastHER Student Scholarship from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

I am a college student and I recently got laid-off from work, so I have not been able to upgrade my streaming setup. This grant means I can improve the quality of my streams.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Student Scholarship mean to you?

I am super-thankful to be given this opportunity; it will really help and push me to continue making content and doing what I love. It is incredible what this organization is doing to empower women and support them towards reaching their goals.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

Support each other and get rid of the stigma that women cannot play video games. Women have the capacity and should have the same opportunities to accomplish great things in the gaming community.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

As a Hispanic female, I have experienced discrimination in-game. It happens very often to women and it ruins the experience. Gaming should be a safe space for everyone since it allows us to relieve stress, have fun, and meet new people.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Be yourself! There are amazing people that will support you and appreciate you — just the way you are. Find your passion and do not give up! There are going to be times where you will feel discouraged, but you have to keep going. It takes a lot of work, time, and dedication, but it is worth it.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I am very fortunate to have wonderful people by my side. My family, friends, boyfriend, and my community push me and motivate me everyday to do my best and to follow my dreams.
