Meet Maria C. (she/her), a New Face of Tech winner who is studying Artificial Intelligence at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (PUCPR).

What is your dream?

My dream is to be an inspiration to women in tech and Artificial Intelligence — and to keep pursuing my dreams in AI through a post-graduate degree. Also, I want to start projects along with research to find ways of bringing real and positive differences to society through AI.

Please share how you feel about the win and what impact it will have on your career.

I struggled to find a subject to study in university. I was confused and went through a huge journey (law, graphic design, marketing and social media). I did all of that because I thought I wasn’t “smart enough” for STEM and I was so scared of trying.

If you find yourself in this situation or something similar, don’t be afraid to give STEM a try! Hard work and dedication are more valuable than natural talent — and effort outweighs talent every time.

I am beyond thankful for this opportunity. The grant will make me dream even more and it is also a very special dream come true: To continue my studies and  inspire other women.

What advice do you have for other women reaching for their dreams?

Stay patient and trust your journey. Don’t let anyone sabotage you or tell you that you’re not capable or that is not worth it. Always remember your value. Always believe in yourself and your dreams. Live life, experience it, and shine! You are more than capable, you just have to realize it.

Beautiful things are coming; please keep your heart open to them, and above all, please believe that you are worthy of it all.
