@MamaTamago, 28 – FUNDED

@MamaTamago (she/her) loves connecting with her community through conversations and community games. You might find this BroadcastHER Grant winner also sharing tips, tricks, and tutorials on how to improve stream quality.

When she’s not streaming, she is probably drawing. “I have been drawing for as long as I can remember,” she says.  “I love creating and learning new things — and I drew all my emotes, overlays, and panels!”

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream as a digital broadcaster is to be able to share my knowledge and resources that I’ve learned. I’m all about transparency and sharing experiences, tools, tips, and resources for creators — especially in a field where historically it hasn’t been as transparent or had a sense of camaraderie. I truly believe that when we share what we learn and help one another, it will help improve the creator field and digital broadcasting as a whole.

How will your award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

I’ll be able to purchase a dream camera that will help me make long-form videos. One of my goals is to put up videos on my YouTube channel, ranging from tutorials to lifestyle content.

What does being a recipient mean to you?

Being a recipient helps reassure me that I am heading in the right direction. It’s an incredible honor to have been selected as a recipient and to have people believe in my vision. It gives me renewed inspiration in my content!

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

We can create spaces where women and young girls are freely allowed to explore their interests in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

Some challenges I’ve faced are comments that question my validity in the gamer/streamer space. It feels like, whenever I work toward something, I have to be that much better and polished at it than my peers who aren’t constantly invalidated because of their gender and race.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Go for it! Even though it’s still heavily cis-male-dominated, there are more broadcasters and content creators now out there who are femme-identifying. More often than not, there are people who are willing to help others and make sure that they are welcomed in the space.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

To stay motivated, I like to break my goals down into manageable and realistic pieces. I also like to constantly reevaluate my goals and shift them once I understand the process a little bit better. It also helps me stay inspired. Sometimes I’ll even do something completely different to get myself out of the zone and then get back into my work, once I’ve had time to re-center myself.
