@luna_cold182, 21 – Funded

“Sometimes I feel like I have a double life — a student by day and an FG player by night,” says luna_cold182. But this JBL Quantum Grant winner is driven to achieve her goals — and inspire others along the way.

What is your dream in gaming and/or esports?

My dream is about reaching the top as an esports player, showing everyone that it doesn’t matter where you come from. If you want something, you can achieve it, one step at a time.

Also, 2023 has been a year that has made me look at things in a different way. Fighting games aren’t top esports games in my country of Mexico — and I want that to change and expand the community.

How will this award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

I haven’t had the funds to buy a new PC. Being able to make this investment helps me as a student and as an esports player both.

What does being a 1,000 Dreams Fund – JBL Quantum Grant recipient mean to you?

This means a lot to me because it’s a very big step to start making goals that I have within the FGC, as a Twitch Streamer, and with my personal goals. Thank you so much!

Women are underrepresented in gaming and esports. What can we do to change this?

Sometimes I think that, as a woman, you can have a head full of what others might say. I think that women who are already in gaming can help those who are starting to join and show that not everybody is a bad person.

If others need to know about the competitive scene or the first steps to take as a streamer/player or whatever, we should help each other — and do it without expecting anything in return. It is sad that many girls don’t join because of certain insecurities that exist beyond the gaming community.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

My family doesn’t support me in being a competitive player and streamer. But believe me — that hasn’t stopped me.

What advice do you have for women who want to work in the gaming or esports industry?

Don’t give up! It probably sounds like a cliché phrase, but really don’t give up. Starting is a simple step, but to keep doing it is a more difficult one. You are going to meet people who are going to tell you that what you are doing doesn’t make sense or that it’s wrong because you’re a woman and ‘you’re doing it for attention; you don’t even know how to play.’ Don’t listen to them! Also, it takes time to reach your goals, so don’t feel desperate… you’re gonna make it!

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

The people who I have met through the years help me a lot, because they also help me remember why and what I am doing.
