@laplios, 19 – FUNDED

A little over a year ago, @laplios had no clue that gaming could be something so competitive! Attending Stephens College has opened this BroadcastHER Academy winner’s future to many possibilities and she would love to go out and find some way to use that knowledge to improve their program.

What is your dream in esports and gaming?

I want to be both a player and someone who helps make promotional videos and material.

What does being the BroadcastHER Academy winner, which includes a $1,000 grant and all-expense-paid visit to the HyperX Esports Arena to shadow, mean to you and how will it help you reach your goals?

It gives me a chance to learn more about the esports industry!

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and esports. What can we do to change this?

Give them a platform. It’s hard to find solid ground in an industry dominated by men. But with some work there won’t have to be such a division, and gaming could be recognized as something for all.

What are you most inspired by when it comes to creating encouraging content for young women in gaming, broadcasting, and esports?

I’m inspired by my own team and our supporters. Working together to find ways to promote our streams and community gives me the motivation to continue to create. Although I haven’t streamed as much in the past, having the community there — whether it’s playing or in chat — makes me want to share that experience with others and maybe even help them along the way, too!

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

I’ve had a hard time financing anything for streaming and promotion. I’m working with the Adobe applications to create content other than streams and to hopefully start something on the side to fund new upgrades to enhance my work. Trying to balance all this with practices, studying, school work, and classes can be a hassle sometimes, as well.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Find your “thing” and stick with it. There are a lot of people out there who are probably doing a similar thing you are, and sometimes I also get lost in the sea of streams and voices. Be uniquely YOU! People will come to watch you for your energy and stay for more.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I think a lot about home. I have a younger brother with many health problems who has been fighting since the day he was born. I want to make something in the world and find some way to give it all to him.
