@kidneyforkennedy, 23 – FUNDED

If you’re wondering about the story behind @kidneyforkennedy‘s Twitch handle, the long and short of it is that she actually really does need a kidney transplant. But, streaming has also changed her life; especially mentally, as it gives her an outlet to stop thinking about her health issues. Plus, she loves meeting and making new friends! This BroadcastHER Student Scholarship winner grew up playing video games — and some of her all-time favorites are Sims, storyline games, and Valorant.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

I would love to grow my community more and meet more amazing people.

How will the BroadcastHER Student Scholarship from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

It will help me update my computer, so I can stream longer and not have tech issues.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Student Scholarship mean to you?

I’m so happy to receive this award from this amazing organization!

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

We must continue to put ourselves out there and get to know other women in gaming and connect with them.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

When playing games, some people are very brutal when they find out I’m a girl. If I use voice chat on Valorant, for example, a lot of guys say “oh” or start being rude.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Have fun! Don’t change yourself for others. Just be yourself.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

My friends are very supportive. I have met some amazing people while gaming, and they are the best group of people. They help me through everything.
