@kidderkat, 39 – FUNDED
As a parent who also runs her own business, @kidderkat admits to being constantly busy and tired and putting too much on her own plate sometimes. But this BroadcastHER Grant winner still carves out time for streaming. Here’s what motivates her!
What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?
I’d like to build a community of underrepresented people who work in all aspects of game development.
How will your award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
This award will allow me to fund my very first game and slide a little to the people who are helping me.
What does being a recipient mean to you?
As a person of a certain age, I find it very difficult to put myself out there in a space where my peers are so much younger than me. Receiving this grant reminded me that, no matter what age you are, you’re never too old to start.
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?
Continue to support and uplift non-men however you can! This can be as simple as retweeting when they go live, following them on all their platforms, and sending opportunities their way!
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
I have a lot of self-imposed pressure when it comes to content creation. I want it to look good, perform well, and have a lot of “me” in what I do. It’s so much pressure that, sometimes, I forget to just have fun.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
Just be you. Don’t try to do what somebody else is doing just because you want the prize. Do the things you like as if there were no reward.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
I try to remind myself that I’m doing all of this so that my family can have a better life and so we can be in a position to help others.
