Keia, 24 – FUNDED

Keia Jones has put in some serious hard work to help financially support herself and her education journey. And, it’s not just for her own good that she has in mind; she wants to help others through policy and advocacy. To that end, the Paliwal Club of 100 grant winner is pursuing a dual Master’s degree in agricultural economics and rural development.

What is your professional dream?

My dream is to aid people through policy and advocacy.

What does being in the Paliwal Club mean to you?

I will have access to a network of valuable mentors and encouragement from people who went through what I am going through currently.

Women are underrepresented in STEAM. How can we change this?

I believe that women can be educated in these important areas with outreach and through fostering connections. I know I feel more comfortable pursuing my current degree with encouragement I receive from others around me.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

I had a hard time paying for my needs. I ended up working three jobs throughout most of my undergraduate career. I hope that everything will pay off.

How will this grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

I hope it will help me get one step closer to investing in myself and the future we all share. Right now, it is an amazing feeling to be honored and it gives me strength to keep moving forward.
