Kaylin Moss, 21 – FUNDED

With a dream to become a web designer and developer, Kaylin Moss is well on her way, studying computer science at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. “I am excited to win the New Face of Tech 2021 scholarship!” she says. “The mentorship will have a great impact on my career as a software developer because I will have a network of support.”
What does being the New Face of Tech mean to you?
It means I can reach my dream of being a software developer. I hope to inspire other women interested in a technology career to persevere in pursuing their goals.
Women are underrepresented in STEAM. How can we change this?
Lack of exposure is one factor behind women’s underrepresentation. These employment gaps can be closed if more women are able to connect science with their hobbies, interests, and passions early in their academic career. We can ensure more women are in STEAM by creating a culture that encourages women to pursue STEAM careers.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
A major challenge on my path to becoming a software developer has been lack of funding to finish my computer science degree.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
I stay motivated and focused by surrounding myself with people who will hold me accountable.
How will funding from the 1,000 Dreams Fund and HARMAN help you reach your goals?
It will alleviate financial barriers to my education and help me finish my computer science degree.
