Katy, 17 – FUNDED
Katy Trieu is a natural advocate. Not only does she want to help close education and health gaps in the future, her advice to her peers is not only to “break those ceilings,” but also “support and innovate opportunities for other historically disadvantaged groups.” This 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship recipient will be an incoming freshman at the University of California, Berkeley in the fall where she plans to study business administration.
What is your professional dream?
My professional dream lies in the realm of closing the educational achievement and healthcare accessibility gaps while also pursuing finance! I hope to bridge a relationship between the dichotomy of striving for equity and managing capital.
How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship?
I will be using the 1,0000 Dreams Scholarship for technological, project, and conference expenses.
How is this scholarship helping you get closer to your dream?
This scholarship is providing financial assistance for the materials I need for my educational pursuits (outside of tuition). Moreover, it demonstrates the support that the 1000 Dreams Fund organization has in my goals.
What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?
As a first-generation college student, I was largely unaware of most of the opportunities for youth. Speaking as a young person myself, so many people will be willing to share experiences or open opportunities should you just reach out and demonstrate your interest. The worst that can happen is a “no.”
Have you had any setbacks? How did you move past them?
In creating my piano program, there were a couple of setbacks with marketing and client misunderstandings. I always tried my best to address them head on. For example, I created a written policy for parents to sign.
What’s next for you? What is your next goal?
My current goal is to learn Spanish fluently! I am spending a bit of time on Duolingo and talking to friends, and I hope to further my studies by making plans to travel abroad when travel restrictions are relaxed.
