@Katdell, 24 – FUNDED
@Katdell has a passion for fashion; she’s a Fashion Marketing student. But, on the side, this BroadcastHER Grant winner pursues another passion: doing good for others. She works on the Discord team for the charity, Player vs. Hunger, and she was formerly the promotions manager for 1UpOnCancer. She also loves to stream makeup, body paint, and other creative content along with Indie games and Nintendo titles.
What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?
I want to start a business-wear clothing line for nerds and streamers alike to sell at conventions as well as online.
How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
I plan to use the funds to travel to a trade show to learn more about how to start my business.
What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?
It means the world that someone else thinks my dream is something worth striving for. It also opens an opportunity for myself that I wouldn’t have had otherwise.
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?
Promote the good we see in women. When women do get noticed on Twitch, it’s usually not for reasons they would want. Promoting women who are doing good for others — and doing good for the world — is a great way to start.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
Finances and knowledge have always been the biggest obstacles for me.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
Stream what you love. If there isn’t an audience for it, build one.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
Watching other people pull themselves up by their bootstraps is a pretty great motivator for me. I also use a lot of white boards to stay organized.
