@karinuux, 26 – FUNDED

BroadcastHER Grant winner @karinuux has a poster hanging on her wall that she sees every day and it says: “What will you do today that makes a difference in your life and that of others?” Indeed, that’s what really brings this Latina streamer joy — knowing that she’s making someone else smile or helping them through a bad day. Some of her favorite games include Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, Assassins Creed, and Batman — and here’s what else inspires this broadcaster.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream is to inspire other Latina streamers to follow their dreams and to help others who are having a bad day. If I can make at least one person happy along the way, I know that I have already made a difference and that I did something that was worth it. Life can sometimes be difficult, and sometimes the only thing that helps overcome problems is to have a fun time — and that is what I want to achieve with my channel.

How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

I need more streaming equipment in order to offer better streams. The grant is going to help me to upgrade my equipment and that is going to improve my show every day with better audio and better content.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?

It makes me really happy. I never thought that I was going to win. It was like a really faraway dream — something that I would never reach. But, dreams can come true in real life! So, for everyone else it means that they can be whoever they want with hard work towards their goals!

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

We can lead by example for other women and be an inspiration to them to start streaming or making online videos. If we encourage others, we will continue to build the community and share the field with other female streamers.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

It has been hard because I didn’t have the support of my family or the money to start my streaming career. I also had to go to school, study for tests, do homework, and work on final projects — all while finding time to make my streams.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Don’t stop working hard and keep following your dreams. Some day, you will be proud of all the work because you will see results and achieve your goals and dreams. The effort will be worth it!

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

Every morning I wake up thinking about what I’m going to do that day to be a better person and to keep working on my goals. I always try to think of at least one way to improve the content of my shows and to have variety — and that helps exercise my creativity. Once you get in the habit, it is easy to stay motivated and see your successes along the way. There are difficult days, but I support myself with my friends because it is important to have people to accompany you on the road to achieve your dreams.
