As a political science student in Washington, D.C., @kariann keeps a busy schedule. But, she likes playing VALORANT and Counter-Strike in her spare time. What is your dream in gaming and/or esports? 

My dream is to work in the world of esports and be an established representative of an organization.

How will this award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals? 

This award will allow me to achieve greater things within the realm of esports and get closer to what I want to be doing.

What does being a 1,000 Dreams Fund – JBL Quantum Grant recipient mean to you? 

It means a lot to me. It means that I am recognized for my efforts and the stuff I’ve done in the past to be where I am today.

Women are underrepresented in gaming and esports. What can we do to change this? 

We can change this by constantly uplifting women’s voices and empowering women to get involved — whether that’s by participating in games or working behind the scenes.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way? 

I have faced a lot of reckless sexism and harassment from people who do not believe in women’s empowerment.

What advice do you have for women who want to work in the gaming or esports industry? 

Keep going, and never give up.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals? 

I always have a to-do list and I try to journal to clarify my thoughts and my mind!
