@Jasteria, 28 – FUNDED
Based in New Zealand, Janelle (or J for short) goes by @Jasteria on Twitch — and there’s a story behind that name. It’s a J “chucked” in front of Asteria who is the Goddess of Falling Stars. This BroadcastHER Grant winner is primarily a “Just Dancer” on Twitch, but she also does a bit of variety from time to time.
What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?
My dream is to constantly learn, grow, travel, and meet like-minded people from the experience.
How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
It will improve my stream quality, so I can give my community the best content they deserve.
What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?
I feel very honored to be part of a team of incredible women.
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?
We need to be pushing for diversity so we get stories and representation that can appeal to everyone.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
I’ve faced quite a bit of sexism and sexual harassment along with negative comments in my Twitch chat.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
It sounds so cliché, but honestly just be yourself. People will show up for you. Also, having a consistent stream schedule is highly recommended.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
I set small goals, with one big goal at the end. Then, I can still celebrate small victories with it not feeling like a huge grind.
