@Jasprrx, 21 – FUNDED
@Jasprrx knows firsthand that it can be very difficult in the esports scene for females to be out there and passionate about the industry. But, this BroadcastHER Academy winner hasn’t let that hold her back. Here’s what else she has to say!
What is your dream in esports and gaming?
I want to be a professional esports player in Valorant. I also want to build my social media manager skills, so I can use them later on to help manage esports teams.
What does being the BroadcastHER Academy winner, which includes a $1,000 grant and all-expense-paid visit to the HyperX Esports Arena to shadow, mean to you and how will it help you reach your goals?
The grant will help me further build my PC, because I currently have an outdated one and it is always causing issues — not allowing me to stream or participate for hours in things. If I am able to go to the event, I would use it to branch more into the social media management part in order to learn more skills that I can use to further grow my career.
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and esports. What can we do to change this?
Find a voice for them even more! We need more supportive things like tourneys or opportunities — just like BroadcastHER. Of course, it is up to the individual themselves to further push. But, we can do better with facilitating starting point for them — whether they have the experience or not at first.
What are you most inspired by when it comes to creating encouraging content for young women in gaming, broadcasting, and esports?
I’m mostly inspired by the female pros in the Valorant scene and my friends who also are working for some esports orgs like Gen G and AKREW. They all push me to pursue my dreams a lot more.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
I’ve faced financial issues, lack of support from family (who are otherwise my #1 support system), and my own self-doubt. I sometimes fall into the trap of believing I am not able to make it, when I know I can because I have put the hard work into this and I have sacrificed a lot.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
Do not be afraid to take every opportunity you get. It will help you branch out more — and that is how you can build all the connections. Everything you do counts 100%.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
Three things: My close friends, some pro players I know, and a bit of myself… I see how much work and sacrifice I put into making this my reality and I refuse to give up.
