What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?
I want to be a host/interviewer in the gaming industry.
How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
Creating content on my own is super-important to prove that I have the skills to be hired. But it requires hardware that costs money. This grant reduces the financial burden to make my dreams come true.
What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?
I’m truly honored to be chosen. It reminds me that others believe in me and want me to succeed; that my dream is not crazy.
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?
Equity! We need to even the playing field. That means giving women (especially women of color and LGBTQIA+ women) more opportunities to show their skills and wow companies — whether that’s giving an introduction to a brand sponsor for a streamer, or in my case, helping me book an appearance to host on a major brand’s YouTube channel. These opportunities are hard to get on our own but, once we get them, we always shine.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
Currently, my biggest challenge is trying to book paid opportunities. The industry really expects you to work for free unless you are already famous. While volunteering and getting experience is important, at some point I would love to be paid to do what I love. It’s a process so I have to balance this and other ways to make ends meet.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
Just do it! You don’t need a full setup — just a good internet connection and a microphone.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
I stay friends with fellow broadcasters who inspire me — and this drives me.
