@Itskadylol, 21 – Funded
Itskadylol (she/her) calls herself the “one-stop-shop for horror content with a cute, sassy twist.” Read on to learn more about this JBL Quantum Grant winner — and why she never lets disappointment become discouragement.
What is your dream in gaming and/or esports?
I want to become a full-time creator who can inspire people of all walks of life to be themselves — no matter how random or weird you may seem. It’s okay to be weird and crazy… I am!
How will this award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
This will help me get more equipment and go into taking more editing classes — overall cultivating and elevating my content.
What does being a 1,000 Dreams Fund – JBL Quantum Grant recipient mean to you?
It means that I have something worth looking at or sponsoring. I don’t have a lot of confidence, so seeing what others see in me is changing my perspective on myself.
Women are underrepresented in gaming and esports. What can we do to change this?
As a community of women, we can post! Post! Post! We can also find ways to have conversations that can help others listen to understand, not to listen to be heard. I do understand that we can’t expect everyone to have empathy. Finding ways to show them our perspective can propel us forward to being represented in the gaming and esports space.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
Patience! I am a very impulsive individual and, with that, comes disappointment. I would often get upset seeing someone excel at something I was struggling with. But, I never let disappointment become discouragement. Disappointment is fine because disappointment bothers your head. BUT discouragement bothers your heart.
What advice do you have for women who want to work in the gaming or esports industry?
I would say don’t compare yourself to anyone else. There is a difference between learning from creators and comparing yourself to other creators. Comparison is a fool’s errand and it does nothing but make you doubt yourself. You are a warrior. But just because you are warrior doesn’t mean you have do any physical fighting. Sometimes you have to fight a mental battle and tackle what’s inside — because, if you saw you how I did, you wouldn’t be feeling discouraged.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
What keeps me motivated is knowing that this isn’t the end. God is still working on me. That keeps me going as well as realizing that my dream is bigger than me. I want to share it with anyone as much as possible.
