As I step into this new phase of my life, I am committed to pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology and a minor in Pre-Med Studies. The primary reason I chose this educational plan is that it directly aligns with my goal of becoming a physician specializing in general surgery.

I remember the time my younger sister, at toddler age, had been rushed to the ER due to a severe case of RSV, which developed into pneumonia. Her breathing was constricted, and her condition was critical as fluid began building in and around her lungs. Every day for a few weeks, I would visit her in the hospital and see her in a hospital bed attached to an IV, along with other tubes that assisted her, and the sight was not only heartbreaking but life-altering. Life-altering because, at that moment, I decided that aiding those suffering from critical conditions was what I wanted to do.

This moment solidified my commitment to a career in which I could provide the same life-saving care that once saved my baby sister’s life. I want to be the security that families will rely on when their loved ones are in a critical condition.

I am greatly honored to have been awarded this scholarship as it will inspire me to keep pursuing my path towards becoming a surgeon.

Never stop trying to reach your goals. It is no secret that there will be challenging moments, but it’s important to remember to overcome those obstacles and keep working towards your dreams.

My name is Isabella T., and I am an aspiring surgeon. This fall, I will attend Texas State University as a Biology major with a Pre-Med minor, pursuing a Bachelor of Science. I am extremely grateful to have been chosen for the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship.

Being selected has not only given me confidence in my abilities but has served as constant motivation to work hard for the dreams I hope to achieve.

Moving forward, I plan to use this award to assist with any academic-related fees such as required textbooks, academic materials, lab supplies, and more.
