Irene A., 20 – FUNDED

Did you know there is such a thing as the field of cosmetic chemistry?! It’s part of Irene A.’s future goals, as she dreams of creating “innovative solutions to reduce the environmental impact of cosmetics and personal care products.” Right now, this Paliwal Club of 100 STEAM Scholar is building a solid foundation by studying chemical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
What is your professional dream?
My aspiration is to further my education by obtaining a master’s degree in either Cosmetic Chemistry or Biotechnology, while also pursuing a career as a researcher in the field of biotechnology.
What does being in the Paliwal Club of 100 mean to you?
This is a privilege, as it provides the opportunity to be a part of a community of strong, determined women who are dedicated to shaping a brighter future and providing guidance and support for the next generation to accomplish their dreams.
Women are underrepresented in the S.T.E.A.M. (science, tech, arts or math) fields and music industry. How can we change this?
We can promote gender equality by building a supportive community that empowers women to achieve their aspirations and cultivates self-assurance. By facing and overcoming obstacles together, we can break down barriers and pave the way for a more inclusive future.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
During my journey, I have encountered challenges such as feeling underrepresented as one of the few women of color in my classes and sometimes experiencing a lack of credibility or having to work harder to establish my abilities among my peers.
How will this grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
I am incredibly grateful for this grant as it will allow me to continue my academic journey without the fear of financial instability. Additionally, it is an uplifting reminder that some organizations and individuals are committed to empowering women, and I am honored to be a part of that positive change.
