Meet Ibilola O. (she/her), a 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship winner who is pursuing a civil engineering degree at University of Kansas.

What is your dream?

My dream is to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the construction industry through my work in construction management, ensuring that clients and owners receive real value for the money they invest in their projects. I want to remain actively involved in projects that make a difference while also teaching, so I can share my knowledge and experience with future generations. I hope to inspire more women, especially Black women, to keep pursuing their goals and breaking barriers in a field where they are often underrepresented.

Please share a short quote that tells us how you feel about the win and what impact it will have on your career.

This funding reminds me that there are always people who believe in me, who are willing to invest in my potential, and who are ready to take a chance, just as 1,000 Dreams Fund has done. I am deeply grateful for this support, which will help me earn professional certifications and open doors to new opportunities in the industry.

​What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?

Keep knocking on doors. No matter how many times you hear ‘no,’ a ‘yes’ will eventually come. Be your own biggest cheerleader and stay persistent and resilient. It is okay to rest if you need to, but never give up on yourself. Surround yourself with people who share your passion and energy, whether mentors, colleagues, or friends. Take a break if you must, then get back up and keep going. You owe it to yourself to turn your dreams into reality.
