Meet Hyewon J. (she/her), a Colgate-Palmolive Scholar who is studying psychology at the Baylor University.

What is your dream?

My career goal is to become a skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant who provides high quality, patient centered care. I dream of becoming a provider patients trust. I want to take time to listen, explain medical information clearly, and meet people with patience and respect in low-income and immigrant communities.

I believe warmth and competence should exist together in healthcare, and I am committed to developing both.

My long-term dream is to practice medicine in a way that values human connection as much as technical skill. I hope to build meaningful relationships with patients over time and to be known as a provider who is reliable, attentive, and present. By prioritizing clear communication and thoughtful care, I want to contribute to a healthcare experience that supports patients not only physically, but emotionally as well.

I am deeply grateful for this scholarship, and being selected as a Colgate-Palmolive Scholar feels incredibly affirming. It provides access to opportunities beyond tuition, including professional conferences, accreditation coursework, and learning resources that are essential for preparing for a career in healthcare. This support allows me to gain valuable experience and stay focused on becoming the kind of provider I aspire to be.

What advice do you have for other women reaching for their dreams?

Stay curious and stay consistent. Seek out opportunities that challenge you and help you grow. Do not wait until you feel fully prepared. Growth happens through action, reflection, and persistence. Trust that your experiences are building the skills and perspective you need for what comes next.
