Meet Husniya N. (She/Her), a 1DF Scholarship winner who is pursuing Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
What is your dream?
My dream is to become a physician-scientist who pushes the boundaries of medicine while never losing sight of the people it serves. I hope to study Cognitive Science and Biomedical Engineering before attending medical school, combining research in neuroengineering and medicine with compassionate patient care.
I want to develop technologies that protect neurological health in extreme environments while applying those discoveries to improve care for patients.
Beyond research and medicine, I hope to mentor the next generation of scientists—especially young girls who may not yet believe they belong in STEM—helping create opportunities that extend far beyond my own career.

Every opportunity I receive becomes an opportunity to serve others. This scholarship brings me one step closer to a career dedicated to healing, discovery, and expanding access to medicine and education.
What advice do you have for others reaching for their dreams?
Believe in yourself before the world gives you a reason to. There will be moments when you question whether you’re capable, whether you belong, or whether your dreams are too ambitious. Keep going anyway. Advocate for yourself, because no one else will ever understand your potential as deeply as you do and use your voice to uplift the people around you. Celebrate their successes, encourage them when they doubt themselves, and open doors whenever you can.
What else would you like to share about you and your win?
My name is Husniya N., and I am incredibly honored to be selected as a recipient of the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship. Being chosen means so much to me because it is not only an investment in my education, but also a reminder that others believe in my goals and the impact I hope to make.
This scholarship will help cover educational expenses such as textbooks and other academic materials as I begin my studies in Cognitive Science and Biomedical Engineering on the pre-med track. It will allow me to focus more on my coursework, research, and community involvement while reducing the financial burden of pursuing higher education.
My dream is to become a physician-scientist specializing in neuroengineering, developing innovations that improve healthcare. I am deeply grateful to 1,000 Dreams Fund for supporting students like me and for helping make that dream more attainable.
