Huda Siddiqui, 18 – FUNDED

Huda Siddiqui is excited to be attending Yale University, where she’s interested in studying psychology, religion, and Arabic — and, that’s in addition to a pre-med track! This 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship winner knows firsthand how important it is to have high expectations and ambitions for yourself, and she encourages her peers in this, too.

What is your professional dream?

I want to be a pediatrician.

How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship?

I will use it to purchase textbooks.

How is this scholarship helping you get closer to your dream?

By financially supporting my academic needs, this scholarship is helping me take the classes I need to be a competitive medical school applicant.

What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?

Actively search and network for opportunities for scholarships, internships, and funding — and always ask for help when needed. Be confident in yourself, manage your time, and be organized.

Have you had any setbacks? How did you move past them?

This past fall, my family struggled with the Covid-19 pandemic, with many of my family members being hospitalized. However, during this time, I remained optimistic in helping my mom care for my family and made time to promote mental wellness by connecting with religion, spending time in nature, and painting.

What’s next for you? What is your next goal?

I am excited to spend my next four years at Yale University where I am eager to participate in the Muslim Student Association, Matriculate, and STARS 1. I also hope to study abroad in the Middle East to enhance my Arabic studies. I aim to excel academically, while giving back to the New Haven community through volunteer work and internships in the local hospital and communities.
