@Hiosik, 31 – Funded

Hiosik (she/her) is a full-time social media specialist and part-time streamer. You might also find this BroadcastHER Grant winner playing music on her uke, dancing hula, and baking recipes that look yummy.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream is to create a full-time career in live streaming and content creation. My goal is to inspire my community. I would like them to feel welcomed, inspired, and seen.

How will your award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

This grant will help with going towards my schooling and upgrades towards my stream setup.

What does being a recipient mean to you?

Being awarded this grant was very special to me because I felt seen and recognized in the streamer and content creator space.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and esports. What can we do to change this?

Continue to recognize and uplift women in the space. Support them for all they have accomplished and are aiming to achieve.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

I worried and second=guessed putting myself in the space. I worried what others thought of me and hesitated on content I pushed out. After awhile, I started to realize I do have a voice and I belong here.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Just start! Start with what you have; it doesn’t need to be the latest software or setup. I started with cameras and lighting passed down by my friends because they were upgrading. I started streaming not knowing what I was doing. It gets easier; more ideas will come; confidence will grow. You can do this!

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

In my community (hometown), there are some people who recognize me as the girl who streams. They’ll come up to me and tell me how they liked a video I posted or how they’re waiting for me to create more content. That motivates me because sometimes I don’t think people care or see my content. It reminds me what I create is valuable and it inspires my community to follow their passions and dreams.
