This scholarship is more than financial support; it is a reminder that resilience, hard work, and purpose are recognized. It brings me one step closer to using my education to create opportunities for others and make a meaningful impact around the world.
What advice do you have for others reaching for their dreams?
Never let your circumstances define your potential. There will always be obstacles, setbacks, and moments of doubt, but your dreams are stronger than your fears. Keep showing up, keep learning, ask for help when you need it, and never underestimate the power of resilience. The journey may not look the way you imagined, but it can still lead somewhere extraordinary.
What else would you like to share about you and your win?
My name is Fiolajesurera O., and I am an International Studies student at American University with a passion for international affairs, education, and global development. I am incredibly honored and grateful to be selected as a recipient of the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship Fund. Being chosen is both humbling and encouraging because it reminds me that resilience, hard work, and a commitment to serving others are recognized and valued.
Following the unexpected loss of my father during my first year of college, my family faced significant financial challenges. This scholarship is more than financial assistance—it is an investment in my future and a reminder that I am not pursuing my dreams alone.
I will use this award to purchase textbooks and research materials, attend professional conferences and policy events in Washington, D.C., and cover transportation costs associated with educational and networking opportunities. These experiences will strengthen my leadership, expand my professional network, and prepare me for a career in international affairs and public service.
