Eyimofe A., 19 – FUNDED

Meet Eyimofe A. (she/her), a 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship winner who is studying computer science and mathematics at Mississippi Valley State University.
What is your dream?
I dream of becoming a senior software engineer at a prominent tech company while having the financial stability to eradicate the economic barriers faced by young girls and underserved individuals in the tech field — and to travel worldwide.
Please share a short quote that tells us how you feel about the win and what impact it will have on your career.
This quote by Walt Disney deeply resonates with me: “The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting.” I had completely given up on my dream of attending a prominent educational conference due to my financial situation until I came across this amazing opportunity. If I had let my fear of being rejected for this grant stop me from applying, I wouldn’t be writing this now.
I am incredibly grateful and thrilled to be able to attend the conference I wanted, as it will allow me to connect with leading individuals and recruiters in the tech space and significantly improve my chances of securing an internship next summer.
What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?
Breaking your larger goals into smaller, manageable steps can help you avoid feeling overwhelmed by failure. Set realistic, achievable targets and celebrate your progress along the way. Acknowledging your accomplishments — no matter how small — can boost your motivation and confidence, making it easier to overcome setbacks and stay on track.
