Erica, 18 – FUNDED

Erica Behnfeldt’s dream to be a biochemical researcher is taking her to Saginaw Valley State University where she plans to double-major in biochemistry and molecular biology. Here’s what else is this 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship recipient had to say.
What is your professional dream?
My dream is to be a biochemical researcher.
How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship?
I will use the scholarship to help pay for the cost of my classes and books during my fall semester.
How is this scholarship helping you get closer to your dream?
It will help me by allowing me to focus my attention on my studies and not only on finances.
What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?
The road to your dreams might not be easy, but every challenge you overcome is more proof that you are capable of achieving your dream.
Have you had any setbacks? How did you move past them?
One setback I’ve had was a conflict in my high school class schedule. I was forced to take online calculus for two years because of overlaps in classes. I did not let this hinder my education and worked hard to learn the material even with the unconventional format. In the end, I studied hard and was successful in both of the AP Calculus tests I took.
What’s next for you? What is your next goal?
Next I will be attending Saginaw Valley State University. My goal there is to graduate with honors with a double major in biochemistry and molecular biology.
