Ellie Gao, 17 – FUNDED

A personal tragedy is what fueled Ellie Gao’s dream to help support families struggling with health issues. The 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship recipient will be attending Harvard College with plans to study chemistry.
What is your professional dream?
My dream is to be a physician assistant.
How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship?
I will use the scholarship to help cover the cost of textbooks and any other educational expenses that arise.
How is this scholarship helping you get closer to your dream?
Coming from a low-income background, I am extremely grateful for the financial support this scholarship is providing. I can focus on my studies and interests more because this scholarship alleviates stress.
What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?
Keep moving forward and staying strong because there is a world full of opportunities for you. Believe in yourself and your potential!
Have you had any setbacks? How did you move past them?
My most challenging setback was when mother passed away in 2018 from a terminal illness. I continue to heal with time, but this experience has motivated me to dedicate my future career to supporting the families out there who are struggling with health issues.
What’s next for you? What is your next goal?
My next goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and then earn a master’s degree in physician assistant studies.
