Meet Elise M. (she/her), a New Face of Tech winner who is studying aviation at San Jose State University.

What is your dream?

My dream is to become both a pilot and a mechanical engineer, specializing in aviation and aerospace. I’ve always been fascinated by how planes work, the way they’re designed, how they move through the air, and what it takes to keep them flying safely and efficiently.

But I don’t just want to fly them, I want to build them, fix them, and understand every component that makes flight possible. Being both a pilot and an engineer would allow me to approach aviation from a unique, hands-on perspective where I can contribute to both the operation and advancement of aircraft technology.

Please share how you feel about the win and what impact it will have on your career.

This scholarship is more than just financial support, it’s the launchpad for my flight training and the official start of my aviation career.

What advice do you have for other women reaching for their dreams?

It is normal to feel like you are not good enough. We all have moments of doubts which makes us human. But never let those feelings define you or limit your dreams. Do not let other people dictate what you should or shouldn’t do, especially if you want to pursue something that is predominantly done by men. Your dreams are valid. Your ambitions are valid. Believe in your abilities even when you’re still learning. Keep going even when it’s uncomfortable. The world needs more women who are brave enough to take up space and chase what they truly want.
