@DinomiteTwins – FUNDED
Yes, the @DinomiteTwins are twins! They actually started playing video games in 2020 — during the pandemic’s quarantine restrictions. Just Dance is their main vibe (they did Irish dance as kids!), but these BroadcastHER Grant recipients also throw in some variety and do IRL streams, too. They also love supporting good causes and have raised thousands of dollars for Feeding America and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?
We want to create a positive space where fun can be had by all.
How will your award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
There is just a real financial barrier to streaming — particularly in the IRL space. This award helps with that. Plus, having this network of femme-identifying women streamers is important, too.
What does being a recipient mean to you?
Everything. Not only is there a strong network built for recipients, it will allow us to get rid of some of the technical barriers so we can produce higher-quality streams.
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?
Speak up and use our voices! We need to share experiences and advice as well as create safe, positive, and diverse spaces. We also need to assist with access to technology and grants and encourage women at a young age to enter this space as content creators, gamers, and developers.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
We did not consider ourselves typical gamers. We always played non-stereotypical games and were encouraged not to game as kids because we were female. Even once we started streaming, it was harder to be taken seriously with Just Dance, IRL exploring, just chatting, and chill variety.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
Reach out to other women and communities for support; focus on what you want your community to be; and just get started! It doesn’t have to be perfect. People will help you along the way.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
Remembering how far we’ve come and reassessing where we want to be as streamers! After all, we’re lucky to have each other. And if we both feel behind, we reach out to our friends, get away from the computer, and look to other streamers as well as other mediums for new ideas and inspiration.
