@DevineGoddessXO, 25 – FUNDED

Devin S., a.k.a. @DevineGoddessXO on Twitch, is a full-time marketing professional and MBA student. But her side hustle is streaming — and she’s loving every minute of it. The BroadcastHER Academy winner is originally a born-and-bred Texas belle, but she lives in Kentucky right now. As for her stream, she doesn’t mind being a bit “goofy” and calls her page the Honey Hive where her fave games include Overwatch, Dead By Daylight, and Battlefield V.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream is to amplify the voices of — and bring exposure to — plus-sized women of color in the gaming community.

What does being the BroadcastHER Academy winner, which includes a $1,000 grant and all-expense-paid visit to the HyperX Esports Arena to shadow, mean to you and how will it help you reach your goals?

I feel so incredibly blessed to have been chosen as a recipient of the BroadcastHER grant. Being a recipient of this grant means that I will be able to fund updates to my stream that will make me immediately more visible in my community. I will be able to create better content and use my voice in ways that I wasn’t able to before.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

Invite women to the table! There are so many amazing women in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports, but they do not get the exposure that they deserve because they are not invited to the table and are fighting to be seen. Let’s shine a light on those who have previously been ignored and include them in the very important gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports production and execution conversations.

What are you most inspired by when it comes to creating encouraging content for young women in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports

Knowing that this content will inspire another young woman to be more confident about her gaming, broadcasting, or e-sports play is so incredible. With that confidence, there is no limit to what she can do. Imagining the endless possibilities that can and will better our communities as a result of that confidence is the most inspiring thing to me.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

As a black woman in the gaming and broadcasting world, I have faced several challenges of exclusivity and harassment. I have to fight twice as hard to be respected, but that fight is unfortunately something I’m used to.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Be yourself! Don’t let the challenges you may face limit your vision and goals. You — as you are — are worthy of respect and support and deserve to reach your goals.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I am surrounded by a community of dope gamers, viewers, content creators, and people who support and uplift me.
