Meet Delaney K. (she/they), a 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship winner who is studying Public Health Policy and Management at University of Pittsburgh.

What is your dream?

My dream is to create a better healthcare system that empowers patients and providers — especially women, people of color, people with disabilities, queer individuals, and other historically underserved groups to foster wellness, health, and resilience. Patients and providers deserve better from our healthcare system. As a chronically ill EMT, I’ve spent my life advocating for myself in the workplace and in doctors’ rooms. I firmly believe that through empowerment, advocacy, and actionable change we can make healthcare better for all.

Please share a short quote that tells us how you feel about the win and what impact it will have on your career.

As a full-time student who is also working full-time to put myself through grad school, the relief that this scholarship offers is immense. This grant will allow me to support my education by purchasing the technology and supplies I need but haven’t been able to save for — making my education easier, more seamless, and hassle free.

​What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?

There is no limit to what women and femme-presenting people are capable of. We are so much and so many and our power is in togetherness. Success is not a zero-sum game and when we work together to empower and raise up other femme people, we all make the world a better place for everyone.
